Should UVU be considered a University? Or is it still only a college? In my opinion it’s all just a bunch of hype to bring in more revenue for this money making institution. For example parking last semester at UVU was horrific, and this semester enrollment is up 12%. That means 12% less parking, 12% more crowded classrooms, and 12% less available classes. Becoming a university is supposed to be a step up that will benefit the students. But who is benefiting from a 12% overpopulation? It is absolutely not the students! Since the students can no longer afford parking passes (due to the increase in tuition), they are now required to take 30 to 45 minutes circling the FREE parking lot, just to be late for a class (that that they are hoping someone will drop out of so they can take their seat). How does that benefit the students? Was it a responsible decision to allow an increase in student population by 12% before addressing these problems? I think not! I think that the debt we take on as students (excluding students with rich parents) is worth more than what UVU is providing under the decision of the administration.
Another concern of students is the lack of complete bachelors and masters programs available at UVU. What is the point of enrolling at UVU when after just two semesters you would have to transfer to a more qualified university, where the cost of tuition is the same! For instance the engineering department only offers a pre engineering degree, which is basically just the generals. Where is the benefit to the students!? So should UVU really be considered a University, When it is acts like a community college? I think not.
