Declaring a Major..

This is my first year at UVU and it's been really complicated so far. I don't know which generals and classes I need to take! But from the first day I began registering during the summer I couldn't get any specific help from someone that works at UVU. I have about 3 things I am considering majoring in... but I don't want to declare a major yet! But at UVU it seems that if you don't declare a major you are a nobody! I have tried meeting with a generals counselor and they were really vague so that was no help... I understand the fact that eventually I need to declare a major for the sake of not taking classes that will be pointless if my major doesn't require them.. But is it really necessary to declare a major as a freshman?? It's been really frustrating trying to get answers out of anyone and I almost declared a major like 3 times but I'm glad I didn't because I know I'd regret it later! I just don't know what I want to do in the future yet... and UVU makes me feel like I'm the only one who feels that way! Why can't anyone tell me some basic classes I need to take? A counselor even told me that I should declare a major really soon if I want to know which classes to take. I don't understand it! Is college supposed to be this complicated and confusing? Did I miss something? This is an on-going problem that has been facing me at UVU. Hopefully by next semester or the one after that I'll have things figured out.
