Struggles that come with college

As a student at Utah Valley University, but more importantly as a freshmen, I am facing several new challenges that I didn't have to deal with in secondary schooling. I am just now beginning to realize how much responsibility comes with taking seventeen credits in a semester. Even with an easy class or two factored into the equation it can be a huge load compared to what I was used to and expected in my earlier years of school. While I was told what to expect concerning the work load I would be undertaking it hadn’t hit until the last day or so.

Balancing all of the daily tasks in life becomes a challenge as new college students have had to adjust to the vast amount of homework that is given day to day. Not only is there work and school, but you actually have to take some school work home (hard to imagine, I know)! Then there is the addition of many other activities including, musical instrument practice, volunteering, sports, etc. What was once before a simple life of a high school student now becomes much more difficult.

This experience has forced me to prioritize my obligations and decide what I would like to do most this year. How many hours do I want to work, and will I be able to keep my job considering the workload I'm taking on this semester. Will I have time to keep up my musical abilities? There simply doesn't seem to be enough hours in the day for all my needs.

You may think you have time to do all the things you want to, but you need to include time to just take a moment and live, breathe, and relax! So college really becomes a balancing act like no other as you balance your social, academic, physical and other needs (as well as time for yourself) like you, perhaps, have not had to before.
